Greg Loescher, former editor of Goldmine Magazine, in an editorial a few years back, offered up a story about acquiring a copy of Reggae Christmas, by The Joe Gibbs Family of Artists, for $1.00 in a bargain bin. He was initially attracted by the uniqueness of the album jacket, which I'm sure you can agree is one of the more unusual covers to be found. After all, how many times in your life would you expect to see an album cover with a marijuana plant masquerading as a Christmas tree, complete with Christmas lights and everything? Back to the story though.
Greg takes this LP home and listens to it, and also takes it over to his mom and dad's house for them to have a listen to it. His mother in particular is not impressed. It's not a bad album, mind you. I suppose at the time this LP was released, it was pretty unusual to have Christmas music sung reggae style. At the time of Loescher's editorial, he said this LP was valued at around $20.00. Not bad for a $1.00 investment on his part, eh?
