The Bee Gees & Related Collection

The Now Voyager CD is one of those holy grails among Bee Gees fan, and is very difficult to find. I got my original CD around 1992 for $8.00. Saw another copy in the same store a few weeks later and didn't buy it. I've been kicking myself ever since.

Now Voyager, the movie, is described as a concept video album. It begins rather slowly, with the main character (played by Barry Gibb) impatiently waiting for his car to be serviced at a gas station. Unwilling to let the attendant go through the whole nine yards (checking the oil, washing the windshield, etc.), he gives the attendant some money and drives away. After a too-long driving down the road sequence, the main character crashes his car into a river. Freeing himself from the vehicle, he manages to swim to the surface, only to find himself in a swimming pool. A bizarre series of adventures ensues at this point.

The story is rather loosely tied together, with an underlying theme of teaching the main character to think more about others than about himself. While this is neither the best nor worst film I've ever seen, Barry Gibb exhibits surprisingly strong acting skills and carries the part well. Both the audio and video versions of Now Voyager are definitely worth adding to your collection.
