Album Notes
At the time of this concert, on September 17, 1976, Elton was arguably the biggest music artist on the planet. He had recently brought his 10-piece band through the largest venues the UK had to offer. He had been the first act after The Beatles to tour stadiums in the US, set a record by selling out Madison Square Garden for an entire week, and scored his biggest worldwide hit to date with ''Don't Go Breaking My Heart.'' So, this evening's rare solo show at a 3,000-seat theatre was not unlike watching him do a living room concert, complete with many seldom-performed songs mixed in with more popular tunes, stripped down like never before. Truly a special night and one that has been in the top five of many fans' ''Best Concert'' lists since its international telecast.
